Hi Everyone!

Welcome to The Style Bean! Have you ever done a barre class before? I experienced my first barre class at Pure Barre on the Mainline in PA. OMG it was amazing! I have wanted to try a class for the longest time. My friend Amara and I decided to go. What we were expecting and what we got were way off. I was expecting to get a workout but I wasn’t expecting to hurt within minutes. Within the first 3 minutes of class I looked at Amara and said, “I’m regretting this decision.”

The instructor Vanessa was great; she helped us throughout the whole class repositioning our arms, legs, feet, toes and pelvic bone. As an avid yogi for 10 years I figured I could keep up. Vanessa set out spots in the room up with a set of 3 and 2 pound weights, a small ball, resistance band and yoga mat. Before I went to the class I checked it out on their website www.purebarre.com. They say you should wear socks, which I didn’t really get because you’re on carpet. I purchased the socks they sell which have small bumps on the bottom to stop you from slipping. I bought the pair that says “what the tuck.” They had lots different colors each with different sayings like new mom, what the tuck, and coffee barre and lots more.

As I sit here and write this blog post I can feel my abs getting sorer by the minute.  The music during the class is pumped up and makes you want to keep moving. I will say that it is pretty loud so it was hard to hear the instructor. When I couldn’t hear her I just looked around a mimicked what the other women were doing.

The class started with planks, scissor kicks, band work and ball work. The word you hear throughout the entire class is TUCK.  I interpreted tucking as you bringing your hips and pelvis up towards your belly button while squeezing your abs. We went from the floor to the bar. Once at the bar we did squats with small leg movements for what seems like hours. A position you experience for awhile is holding on to the barre in a slight squat position arms straight out, heels lifted and tuck, boy can you feel the burn. I had to stop many times because my body was shaking.  After using the barre for a while we moved back down to the floor doing tucking, yoga and abs.

After years of doing yoga, lifting weights and physically therapy this was the first time I felt my muscles burn instantly. Everything is small movements, which are so much harder than big movements. I leg press, dead lift and squat twice a week and never really felt instant shaking. I highly recommend taking a barre class and adding this into your workout routine at least once a week. Pure Barre has many different locations in PA. Find locations here https://purebarre.com/locations/.

If you were thinking of taking a barre class at Pure Barre or at any other barre studio I sincerely sat try it out. If not as a regular exercise just do it for the experience.  I hope you enjoyed my experience doing my first barre classes and go to Pure Barre and tuck!

Love you!

Kristin
